According to recent data from Two Sides North America, Canada retains over 367 million hectares of forest, representing 9% of the world’s total forest area. Less than 0.01% of that land was deforested in 2021, and by law, all harvested forests on public land must be regenerated — either naturally or through replanting. In fact, more than 625 million seedlings were planted across 443,000 hectares of provincial forest lands that year.

These numbers reinforce what Domtar has always believed: sustainability is measurable, verifiable, and deeply rooted in science and stewardship. Canada leads the world in third-party forest certification, with 173 million hectares of forest certified to standards such as the FSC®, SFI®, and CSA, representing 37% of all certified forests globally.
