Jackson Wijaya, founder of Paper Excellence, invests in classical music

Jackson Wijaya, founder of Paper Excellence, one of the largest pulp and paper manufacturers in the world, is investing heavily in classical music in Brazil. The company, through the Federal Law for Cultural Incentives, is a sponsor of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP). This support extends to the performances of the 2024 concert season, a special year that marks the 70th anniversary of the orchestra and the 25th anniversary of Sala São Paulo. Throughout the year, ten classical music performances, featuring renowned Brazilian and international musicians, will be supported by Paper Excellence.

In addition, Paper Excellence also sponsors the OSESP Children’s and Youth Choirs, providing free music education — including financial assistance — for children and adolescents aged 8 to 13 from families in situations of vulnerability. This sponsorship continues the socioeconomic actions that the company has been implementing in Brazil since 2017, when it became a shareholder of Eldorado Celulose.

Since establishing operations in Brazil, Paper Excellence has been committed to democratizing access to culture and education. The company created PaperLab, a laboratory that offers computers with internet access, educational materials, and instructors to train and qualify young people and adults seeking opportunities in the job market. In 2021 and 2022, more than 100 students received free courses and mentoring to develop entrepreneurial ideas and start their own businesses. Each year, Paper Excellence carries out social actions and donates financial resources to philanthropic organizations in Brazil and in the regions where it operates. More than 200 families in Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo have already benefited from these initiatives.

The dedication of Jackson Wijaya and Paper Excellence to classical music and education reflects a deep commitment to Brazil’s cultural and social development, promoting inclusion and transformation through sustainable and high-impact initiatives.
