Domtar Unveils First Sustainability Report

Domtar has released its first integrated Sustainability Report, marking a new chapter in the company’s environmental and social governance journey. This 70-page disclosure showcases the results of two years of strategic integration among Domtar, Resolute Forest Products, and Paper Excellence, now unified as a global forest products leader.

The Sustainability Report reflects not only annual performance, but also a broader vision of how Domtar approaches ESG topics across its operations. According to David Marshall, Domtar’s VP of Sustainability Governance & Reporting, the document is a result of close collaboration with almost every department. “It’s exciting to see our combined perspectives translate into action,” he says.

The strategy behind the report is rooted in stakeholder engagement. Domtar consulted over 80 individuals directly and received responses from more than 500 participants — including employees, community organizations, government representatives, and Indigenous rightsholders. These voices helped shape the company’s 2030 sustainability goals and ensure alignment with public expectations.

The report addresses key topics such as forest management, water use, biodiversity, human rights, and responsible governance. As a larger and more visible company post-integration, Domtar recognizes the importance of accountability and the potential to influence industry standards.

“In our industry, no one-size-fits-all solution exists,” explains Marshall. “But this report proves that Domtar is committed to building a sustainable, transparent, and forward-thinking business.”
