Under its employee-driven grant initiative, Domtar is expanding its community impact through the $2K Your Way program, a unique philanthropic platform that puts empowerment into the hands of the workforce.

Originally launched as $1K Your Way five years ago, the program was renamed and the grant amount was doubled in 2023, reflecting Domtar’s deepening commitment to community investment.

Now a key component of the Domtar Connects platform, full-time employees across North America have the opportunity to apply for grants that support causes they are personally passionate about – from environmental protection and early education to housing and health-care initiatives.

With the integration of Domtar, Resolute Forest Products and Paper Excellence under a unified structure, the reach of $2K Your Way has expanded significantly. In 2025 all 14,000 employees became eligible to apply. The company initially aimed to award some 25 grants, but due to overwhelming interest and strong leadership endorsement, a total of 107 grants were awarded this year.

Making a Local Difference

Recipients of the 2025 grants are using the funds to create meaningful change in their communities:

– Jean Bigelow supported CPE Aux Trois Pommes, a daycare in Quebec that promotes nature-based learning for children.

– Tracie Redmond funded Bethel Day Shelter in South Carolina to help provide additional beds for the unhoused population.

– Antoine Kack chose Camp le Manoir, where he was once a camper and staff member, to support development of a new environmental education project.

– Joseph Chestnut donated to the Toby Creek Watershed Association to combat pollution and support environmental preservation in Pennsylvania.

Each story reflects the spirit of giving that defines the program. “Whether it is an employee’s fifth year participating or their first, the $2K Your Way program enables them to give back to organizations they are passionate about,” says Jennifer Johnson, Vice President of Global Communications.

Strengthening Community Ties

“Engaging our employees in the communities where we live and work is a vital part of the culture we’re building at Domtar,” says Jan Martin, Director of Public Affairs, who advocated increasing the grant value from $1,000 to $2,000 in 2023. “The $2K Your Way program is a meaningful and rewarding way to bring that commitment to life.”

As Domtar continues to support purpose-driven programs like this, it reinforces a shared belief: small actions by individuals can create big change, especially when supported by a company committed to empowerment, purpose and people.
