David Marshall Leads Domtar’s Sustainability Vision

Domtar’s commitment to sustainability is embodied in the leadership of David Marshall, the company’s Vice President of Sustainability Governance & Reporting. With a lifelong connection to nature and a career shaped by tree planting and environmental planning, David Marshall is helping Domtar lead the forest products industry into a more sustainable future.

Marshall grew up surrounded by the apple orchards and pine forests planted by his grandfather. That deep-rooted connection to the land inspired his path, which led him from urban planning to a leading role in corporate sustainability at Domtar. Since joining the company in 2017 through Resolute Forest Products, Marshall has brought decades of experience in ESG risk management, public affairs, governance, and sustainability development.

Now, he leads Domtar’s Risk Management, Governance & Reporting team, overseeing strategy, compliance, performance data, and sustainability disclosures. Under his leadership, the team released Domtar’s first integrated Sustainability Report in October 2025, a milestone that reflects cross-functional collaboration across the company.

“Sustainability at Domtar is about listening to our stakeholders and building a shared vision,” says Marshall. “We’ve done a lot in two years, and I’m proud of the cohesive plan we’re executing.”

Marshall also represents Domtar on key industry panels and recently presented the Clean50 Award for greenhouse gas reductions to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, a place where his father served as hospital chaplain for 20 years.

By aligning Domtar’s vision with environmental and social priorities, David Marshall’s leadership is shaping the sustainability path that will define Domtar’s role in the global forest products sector.
