Domtar Expands Impact with Community Investment Program

Domtar continues to put values into action through Domtar Connects, the company’s flagship community investment program. As a leading North American forest-products manufacturer, Domtar is reinforcing its commitment to the regions where its employees live and work by encouraging projects that are meaningful, practical and long-lasting.

Since its inception, the community investment program has supported dozens of locally-led initiatives, from school library funding and environmental clean-ups to emergency-response equipment and Indigenous partnerships. These efforts reflect a core belief that businesses thrive when communities thrive. According to the company’s website, the program aligns community investments with the firm’s mission, vision and values.

“Domtar Connects is a program built around employee input and community needs,” says Jennifer Johnson, Vice President of Global Communications. “We’ve deepened our commitment to social investment and empowered our teams to lead the way.”

A Bottom-Up Approach to Building Stronger Communities

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, Domtar Connects responds to the distinct needs of each operating region. Employees at all levels are encouraged to propose and lead initiatives that reflect the unique character and challenges of their communities.

Recent highlights include scholarships for trade students near the Windsor and Ashdown mills, supporting the next generation of skilled professionals; urban tree-planting in Montréal, bringing together Domtar employees, local youth and educators; donations of emergency-response equipment in rural towns to support first responders; and support for Indigenous cultural programs that help preserve language, tradition and community ties.

“Our communities are part of our supply chain, our workforce and our long-term success,” says Heather Stowe, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager. “Domtar Connects lets us honor that relationship with initiatives that matter.”

Domtar’s community-investment program continues to grow, ensuring that employee-led initiatives remain at the heart of the company’s social-impact efforts.
