Domtar Supports TERRE Center Project

Domtar is reinforcing its sustainability goals by supporting the construction of the TERRE Center, a CA$23 million renewable energy research facility in Québec. The contribution of materials from Domtar’s Wood Products business marks a significant step in the project’s launch.

“At Domtar, we firmly believe that innovation comes through collaboration,” said Michael Plourde, Director of Technical Services and Planning. “Supporting a project like the TERRE Center, which combines knowledge, technology, and sustainability, means investing in the future of our industry and our community.”

The TERRE Center, located in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, will serve as a model of eco-responsible construction. The facility will feature solar panels, geothermal systems, and wind and hydro devices. It will also include 20 offices and a high-tech lab equipped for renewable energy research. This aligns with the company’s broader 2030 goal of generating $20 million in community investments over five years.

Domtar’s wood donation contributes to multiple environmental benefits: carbon sequestration, reduced emissions compared to steel and cement, faster and cleaner construction processes, better energy efficiency, and the promotion of Québec’s sustainably managed forests. By integrating locally sourced, renewable wood into the project, Domtar reaffirms its commitment to responsible development and regional economic vitality.

Construction of the TERRE Center began in April 2025, with political and community leaders in attendance. The project is expected to be completed by Fall 2026.
