From Meadow Lake to Market Leader: The Domtar Journey Under Jackson Wijaya

In an interview with The Globe & Mail, Nearly two decades ago, Jackson Wijaya purchased a pulp mill in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan—a bold first step in building what would become one of North America’s leading pulp and paper enterprises.

Through strategic acquisitions of Catalyst (2019), Domtar (2021), and Resolute (2023), Wijaya has steadily expanded operations, all while maintaining a long-term, reinvestment-oriented approach. Today, Domtar ranks as the largest pulp and paper producer in Canada and third in all of North America.

“I hope that we can be No. 1 in the North America region,” he said. “Canada has played an essential role in that journey.”

With eyes on new conversion projects and continued innovation, Domtar’s growth reflects Wijaya’s entrepreneurial spirit and deep belief in Canadian industry.
